Many people were kind enough to let me use their old photographs. But I would
like to say a special word of appreciation to Johnny O'Brien, a great Portlaoise man whose
love for his native town is unlimited. If there are any copyright issues arising out of my
use of any of the photographs here, please contact me and I will
make the necessary arrangements. In the meantime, have a look at a sawmill destroyed by fire, Nazi lookalikes, asses-and-carts,
musicianers, racehorses, wimpled nuns, cornerboys
and millers... All part of the history of our town.
